JACOB BOEHME was a shoe-maker by trade, the son of peasant farmers, and received only a rudimentary education. One morning, watching the sunlight play on a pewter bowl, he experienced an extraordinary spiritual illumination, and started writing books. Amazing books. Doctors of Divinity at the great German Universities were astounded that an unlearned craftsman could produce works like The Three Principles of the Divine Essence and The Threefold Life of Man.The threefold life demonstrates the ancient hermetic doctrine, "As above, so below." The archetypes, desires, instincts and characteristics of human nature have direct parallels in the Cosmos, because all comes from the same Source. Human nature itself is in the image of Deity; therefore self-knowledge is God-knowledge (Gnosis).
This 1909 edition includes a helpful introduction by George Allen. It is a scanned text and the formatting is a little funky, but the text is clean.
